Technical Recovery Test

Teed Business Continuity can design and co-ordinate an IT technical recovery exercise, involving appropriate members of the IT Recovery Team, which tests the ability to recover IT & network equipment and resources, through utilising DR plans & procedures and recovery strategies & contracts.

An individual experienced in facilitating technical exercises will design and co-ordinate an appropriate technical recovery exercise, involving the relevant IT and other representatives, using the following activities:

  • Review current IT, network and premises infrastructure, the likely threats, back up procedures, IT disaster recovery plans and recovery strategies in place

  • Propose and agree scope and objectives for exercise e.g. recover key servers and required systems, applications and data to a level that will meet user requirements etc.

  • Develop appropriate scenario and exercise schedule that satisfies the project scope and objectives

  • Provide guidance on establishing an appropriate test environment.

  • Attend during the exercise to ensure the rules of the exercise are adhered to, the business requirements are being considered and to take notes of the issues arising and future actions required. Incidentally, a 2 day period is the most common time period set aside for technical recovery exercises.

  • Facilitate a post-exercise review discussion where participants have the opportunity to summarise their views on the key issues, lessons learnt, problem areas, DR plan changes required and actions to be taken to improve recovery speeds in the event of a real disruption.

  • Produce an Exercise Outcome Report that documents the scenario followed, the recovery process, actions & decisions taken, future actions required to satisfy issues raised during exercise and a proposed future test schedule.
