Industries & Sectors |
Although the principles of business continuity management are appropriate to all types of public and private organisations, a significant amount of time and effort is saved when the consultant is familiar with the industry or sector for which plans are being developed. The confidence of our prospective clients is increased when they realise that Teed Business Continuity consultants have worked on behalf of leading organisations within their own specific industry or sector.
Undoubtedly, objectives, approaches, methods and terminology do differ when working with different organisations. Right at the start of any client project we will agree an ultimate business continuity aim with our clients and the industry or sector will play a large part in determining the aim, although there will be subtle differences for organisations who operate within the same area. Some examples of summarised project aims of our clients are outlined below:
Oil & Gas – “to continue UK oil and gas production operations in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, whilst keeping all other impacts within acceptable limits”
Local Authorities – “To keep services to the public operating at satisfactory levels to ensure welfare and public confidence is maintained, critical services are uninterrupted and credibility is maintained”
Universities – “To maintain student services at an acceptable level and keep all other impacts within acceptable levels”
Banking & Finance – “To ensure regulatory compliance is not jeopardised and financial impacts do not exceed £10million”
Legal & Professional Services – “To ensure that deadlines continue to be met for key clients, the reputation of the firm is unaffected and all other negative impacts remain within acceptable levels”
Manufacturing & Engineering – “Ensure goods continue to be distributed to key customers at acceptable levels and to recover production capabilities quickly enough to ensure this is achieved on an ongoing basis”
Technology & Telecommunication – “Ensure key network services continue uninterrupted and other services are recovered sufficiently quickly to maintain adequate customer satisfaction levels”
Healthcare – “To ensure patient welfare is not jeopardised and credibility is maintained”
Retail – “Maintain central IT and network services at a level that will ensure shop sales and distribution continue at a level that does not impact customer confidence and non recoverable financial impacts remain under £1million”
Leisure & Travel – “Maintain contact centre capability at a level that will ensure minimum disruption to clients and limited loss of sales”
Food & Drink – “Maintain distribution and communication functions”
Transport – “Keep the buses running”
Media – “Maintain broadcasting services and keep all other impacts within acceptable levels, as defined by business managers”
Having a defined aim for a business continuity project is essential to ensure that focus is maintained and an appropriate priority order for services is agreed.
Teed Business Continuity consultants have often facilitated discussions involving a number of organisations within a particular industry or sector to help promote the sharing of information and explore the combining of resources to keep recovery strategy implementation costs to a minimum. Consultants are regularly asked to speak at industry events to help promote knowledge in relevant aspects of business continuity.
