Business Continuity Preparedness Rating |
Teed have developed an effective business continuity scoring methodology that allows organisations to benchmark their current exposure and motivate them to improve their preparedness on an ongoing basis.
A rating can be provided for the organisation as a whole or individual departments or service areas. The rating would be measured following a review of the current plans and recovery strategies, often involving focused crisis management or recovery exercises of teams and plans.
A rating out of 10 would be provided for each of the following five categories:
1. People 2. Documentation 3. Solution 4. Communication 5. Exposure
An exercise facilitator will be in a position to state category ratings once the exercise is complete, the business continuity plans and associated documentation have been assessed and predefined rating questions per category have been answered and appropriate notes made. The rating mark given will be at the facilitator’s discretion and will aim to give a fair indication of the current business continuity preparedness for each factor. This process relies upon strong facilitation and usually this will be provided by a Teed consultant, although training and methodology can be provided that would allow this process to be carried out in house.
The marks given for each of the factors would be totalled up to give an overall rating for the Plan/s or Team/s tested, thus helping to focus future planning efforts. The rating out of a maximum potential score of 50 will provide a clear indication of the areas that require focus in the future, i.e.:
High: >40 – Well prepared, not requiring business continuity focus
Moderate: 25-39 – Some concerns, improvements to business continuity required
Low: <25 – Significant exposure for organisation, Immediate focus on business continuity required |
