HSE Performance Across Europe – From Mature Assets to New Frontiers
In February, David Teed and Charlotte Smith attended the Society of Petroleum Engineers HSE conference in Europe. With their many years’ experience working with the UK offshore oil and gas industry, David and Charlotte had submitted a paper for this conference entitled “Using Business Continuity to Protect Operations and Reputation through the Proactive Management of Significant Risks”.
The paper showed how business continuity management has been implemented to great effect by many operators, suppliers and contractors in ensuring their ability to recover from an incident that could disrupt the onshore support infrastructure. With BCM now for many a mature discipline, the scope is being expanded to consider potential business continuity threatening scenarios for exploration and production installations such as disruption to the supply chain, mechanical failure or substantial damage to the facility. Ultimately taking a proactive approach to managing significant risks can help keep the implications of a disruption to operations within acceptable levels and thus maintain confidence and credibility in the organisation post-incident.
The SPE is a well-respected body whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production. Their renowned conferences bring together many technical professionals and we were delighted that our paper was accepted a Knowledge Sharing session. A summary of the paper was given via a PowerPoint presentation and accompanied by a poster illustrating the key points of the paper through diagrams and text. The poster can be downloaded by following the Related Resources link below.
The conference brought together almost 200 people from many countries around the world to share with their fellow HSE colleagues the good practice, knowledge and experiences gained from their own field of operations. We felt very privileged to be amongst such an august gathering.
