BS 25999
BS 25999 is the British Standard published by the British Standards Institute for Business Continuity Management. It is published in two parts:
Part 1: Code of Practice came into effect in November 2006. BS25999 provides guidance and recommendations in relation to business continuity and has been supported by the BCI. As a code of practice, the document does not specify requirements to comply with the standard but rather provides a source of reference for implementing best practice.
Part 2 : Specification came into effect in November 2007. This defines the requirements for compliance with the standard in the form of a specification, to assess an organisation's ability to meet regulatory, customer and its own requirements.
What is BS 25999 used for?
The Specification is used to assess an organisation’s ability to meet regulatory, customer and its own requirements. Although there is currently no requirement for organisations to achieve accreditation, it is likely that with the Standard in existence and providing a recognised, formal approach to implementing BCM, there will be a raised expectation from stakeholders for organisations to be able to demonstrate alignment with the Standard.
Review & Gap Analysis
To complement our existing Audit & Assurance service, Teed’s consultants can conduct an independent review of a client's BCM arrangements in order to identify whether the necessary components are in place to satisfy the requirements of BS 25999-2. This is in effect a ‘gap analysis’ with the aim of providing the client with an impression of their state of readiness for BS 25999-2. The analysis will highlight areas of the client’s BCM that would need to be improved upon or developed in order to meet with the Specification and will be presented to the client in a review output report.
Teed can assist the client with ‘filling the gaps’ of their BCM system and, irrespective of whether the client wishes to pursue a formal BSI assessment, the client can be assured that their BCM will be in line with best practice.
Teed's BSI trained Lead Auditor can oversee the entire process thereby ensuring an organisation is fully prepared to apply for BS 25999 accreditation.
BS25999, Parts 1 & 2 are available to purchase from the BSI.
