DR Solution Implementation
Effective project management & risk mitigation
The implementation of solutions should be approached like any IT project by putting together a project plan that defines an appropriate schedule of activity within appropriate and achievable timescales.
Immediate actions should be considered that will reduce the current exposure whilst solutions are being implemented. This may include increasing the regularity of offsite backups, ensuring key information, equipment or other requirements are located offsite, asking to business to implement short term contingency measures and the production of a draft DR Plan.
Inevitably, there are likely to be some changes to the solution when budget has been agreed and the more detailed technical investigations have been initiated. However, it is important that any changes to approach take account of the requirements of the business and do not result in unnecessary investment in time or money.
Keeping on track with Teed support
Teed consultants are often asked to support the project management activities and attend milestone meetings to help provide the IT or business management with the independent assurance that the requirements of the business continue to be taken into account and all necessary activity is carried out efficiently and to schedule. This support usually involves owning the DR Implementation Actions Table and providing independent advice with the sourcing of external services (e.g. advising supplier options available, producing draft tender documents or salient questions, reviewing quotations and providing a benchmark for market costs etc.).
