Strategy Development
Strategy development is about defining the solutions that will enable the organisation to respond effectively and efficiently to an adverse situation. By identifying the strategies to adopt in the event of a disruption, the final pieces of the puzzle will begin to fall into place.
During the business impact analysis phase, the organisation’s business critical activities are identified together with the resources required to ensure they remain operational. Recovery timescales are allocated to each resource. Based on this information, strategies can be developed and documented using a combination of workarounds, contingencies and external recovery options.
Recovery strategies could include data management, the ability to resurrect IT and telephony services, where to transfer manufacturing and distribution capabilities, who should work where if the normal workplace location is no longer available and many other business requirements. Any recovery strategy must be based on the requirements of the organisation and would normally include:
- The recovery priority for functions, processes and services
- The workspace required to house key staff
- Critical data and systems and when these need to be available to the business, including the defined sustainable data loss
- The technology, telephony and other resources required to meet the needs of the critical functions, processes and services
